(原文) UPDATE 12/2019: From what I have heard from other pilgrims, 民宿富士 has addressed the issues of cleanliness and accommodation that I noted in my previous review years ago and continues to be a helpful stop for those beginning their 88 pilgrimage.
Though I had a less-than-ideal experience, I know that negative reviews can be damaging to small businesses. After chatting with a friend who visited Minshuku Fuji on their pilgrimage in 2019 (and ensured me that the facilities were better), I've decided to update my review to better reflect what is likely fair.
Best of luck to the owner, and safe travels to all pilgrims who stay here!
(原文) This minshuku was just perfect! The owner picked us up from temple 11 even though we didn't arrange that with him. God knows how long he waited or how he knew we arrived there. Then he drove us to a shoe store because I asked if one is close by. After that he drove us to a supermarket since his minshuku doesn't offer meals. In the morning he dropped us off at temple 11 again. The house is typically Japanese. Private rooms, shared bath, shared kitchen. Seems to have about 3 to 4 rooms max, we had two other people stay at the same time. Everything was super clean and looked pretty new or taken care of well. We received absolutely delicious miso soup as o-settai in the evening. He gave us many tips about the best roads and best b&b and called the next minshuku for reservations. After two hard days of walking o-henro for two "office people" without much training, this was a real pick-me-up before the long hard hike to temple 12. And all that for just a few bucks! (4000 yen) I speak enough Japanese to get by, but he will do his best and use a translator app if you don't. Please stay here and experience true Japanese hospitality!
(原文) Very helpful owner, pickup and send from 1st to 17th temple. I use this service when walking from 11th to 12th temple, with light backpack, make it much more easy than imagine. No breakfast and dinner, owner will drive u to supermarket to buy food. Clean and spacious space, definitely no bug at all.
