(原文) A must go for cat lovers! It is just off the beaten path of Todaiji in a quiet neighbourhood. The owner has such an extensive collection of cat statuettes, paintings and literature! The statuettes were collected from around the world, and while they can come in many forms (glass, glazed porcelain, unglazed, realistic and cartoonish) there’s a parallel in the cat behaviours expressed. There’s an obvious love and respect for cats here beyond the superficial.
There is however a solemn mood to it as we learnt that the owner’s cat had passed away a few years ago. The owner is also hard of hearing so be a little patient and have your Google translate ready. However, she’s the sweetest lady and was overjoyed when I showed her my cats back home! There’re many small trinkets on sale here so be sure to support them!
(原文) This is a lovely little museum in Nara dedicated to cats. The owner is very passionate and earnest in her love for cats, and she was excited to share her collection with fellow cat-lovers. Her Feline Director is very friendly and we got to play with him while looking through the museum! At the end, we signed a guestbook and the owner gave us some cat-themed chocolates and very cute cat keychains.
(原文) Charming, must see "home museum", if you like cats and would like some local color. A very friendly lady has made her home into a cat museum, loaded with pictures, plates, statues, and stuffed toys - all of cats. The lady is very sweet, and wants to hear about your cats too. She has one cat, but it was ill and not available when we were there. She has nice items for sale and postcards of the museum. Pay 400 yen to enter, remove your shoes, and look through one upstairs and one ground floor rooms full of very nice cat items. Sign the guest book and take pictures. The owner communicates English well when writing and reading on a small white board that she uses. Speaks too, but a little difficult to understand.
(原文) Really charming cute place, the proprietor is super friendly and keen to discuss cats, which we naturally did, sharing many photos and videos of our own! You'll also get to meet the director of the museum, a very sweet ginger cat.
(原文) Stumbled across this adorable place by accident. As a cat lover, and a tourist in Japan, it was a delight to spend half an hour visiting this cat 'museum' inside a lovely traditional house. The owner is so sweet. She has a super friendly one-eyed cat. Definitely recommend to all cat lovers
(原文) I couldn't go in because it was closed, I hope the owner is okay. It's a cute and wholesome museum, if you love cats you'd probably love to see this.
