(原文) Iwaya Kannon : The history of Iwaya Kannon started from the time when 3 different Kannon statues ( Nyoiwa kannon, 11-feced Kannon, Sei Kannon ) were placed under a gigantic rock in the precincts. There used to be 5 statues enshrined in this place, but unfortunately all of them were stolen and the shrine was later granted with 3 statues. It is believed that it once was a sacred site of head temple of Hakusan Sect of Buddhism Toyoharaji Temple located in Sakai City in the north. There is a huge sacred tree of Cedars in the precincts aged over 500 years with trunk size of 17 meters in circumference. The tree is designated as a historical treasure of the city. According to the legend a white dragon appeared around this area when the tree branches were cut in the past. The tree once had huge 12 gigantic branches. The white dragon winded up around the tree to protect remaining 6 branches. Ever since it is believed that there is a white dragon resting in peace in this place offering protection to the nature. It is also said that if a woman drinks tea made from its bark she will produce more milk. Thus, this one is called " Komochi Sugi " meaning " Child Rearing Cedars ". Hike around toward the mountain you will come to another large cedars. This one is called " Iimori Sugi ". It is 7 meters in circumference and 33 meters in height. The location of this place is north-west of Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. Easiest way to find this location is to go along Kuzuryu River to a point where Iwaya River. When you find Iwaya River just go along north. Along the way you will come to a point where the water is pooled next to a dam.
ただ順路は枕木が腐り倒木も多いので夫婦杉からの登りの道ではなく飯盛杉のある岩屋稲荷神社から磐座に参拝されるのがよいと思いますがくれぐれも足元に気を付けて下さい
大杉も見応えがあるものばかり。
近くに広い駐車場もあるのでなかなか良いです。
